Recently, the prominent Saudi Arabian telecommunications operator Mobily announced the adoption of various innovative solutions from Huawei to continue building the F5G-A all-optical target network, contributing to Saudi Arabia's vision of achieving ubiquitous 10 Gbps connectivity in society.

Over the years, Mobily has been at the forefront of technological development in the telecommunications industry in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. To match the rapid growth of its business and achieve the goals of the Saudi government's "Vision 2023" national digital transformation initiative, Mobily, in collaboration with Huawei, completed several leading technology deployments based on F5G-A in the existing network in 2023.

1. The access network evolves to 10GPON to achieve a leap in FTTH home broadband

Mobily has increased bandwidth speeds, optimized Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) packages, and initiated the upgrade of the  Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) network from GPON to 10G PON. This ongoing effort aims to provide Saudi home broadband users with an ultimate home connectivity experience.

2. Use ultra-long-distance 400GWDM  solution to trigger a transmission revolution

By deploying Huawei's 400G solution in the Saudi National Fiber Network (SNFN), Mobily has achieved 2000 km transmission with a single 400G wavelength without electrical regeneration. This milestone signifies Mobily as the first commercial operator in the Middle East to deploy a super-long-distance 400G WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) solution. Huawei's super-long-distance solution significantly enhances network reliability and operational efficiency, contributing to Saudi Arabia's digital hub construction and providing high-quality services for global and Middle Eastern large-scale cloud service providers.

3.Comprehensive network automation technology upgrade and implementation of IP+optical network collaboration strategy

In order to enhance operational efficiency, Mobily has formulated a comprehensive strategy to continuously improve the network's automation capabilities. Actively collaborating with Huawei, Mobily has deployed various network automation technologies in the live network, achieving capabilities such as network visualization, automated service provisioning, and autonomous network assurance. The NCE-Super controller, as a key technology, enables seamless integration and dynamic fusion of IP and optical networks. This converged network fully leverages the optical network's ultra-high-speed transmission, high reliability, and scalability, seamlessly integrating with the intelligence, flexibility, and wide compatibility of IP technology. It constructs a communication infrastructure with ultra-large data throughput, high elasticity, and efficiency, laying the foundation for the next-generation ultra-high-speed, highly reliable digital connectivity worldwide and helping Mobily achieve outstanding operations. Mobily will continue to innovate in network automation, actively optimize network experiences, and enhance operational efficiency.

By smoothly upgrading the network to 10G PON, super-long-distance 400G transmission, and intelligent automation, Mobily will consolidate its full-optical target network, continuously evolving towards 50G PON and super-long-distance 800G, accelerating the transition to the F5G-A era.
