Fiberhome quality broadband analysis system helps improve home broadband network quality

by ZOUJUECHENG 25 Dec 2023

With the development of "dual-gigabit" network construction and internet services, home broadband networks have entered a new stage. Approximately 65% of service experiences in the network industry are affected by home networks. As people's demand for gaming and video services increases, the quality and operation of home networks face growing pressure.

Currently, home network operation and maintenance systems face challenges such as complex user home networking, slow quality diagnosis, a lack of big data analysis for precise user service management, and an evaluation system that focuses too much on network performance metrics, missing accurate recognition of user service experiences and application perception. This leads to significant fluctuations in broadband user satisfaction.

To address these challenges, FiberHome has introduced the SmartQos@iPON Quality Broadband Analysis System, leveraging technologies such as big data and intelligence. This system conducts end-to-end intelligent analysis on both the home and network sides, aiming to move home broadband networks closer to the goal of "automatic driving."

The system, based on regular expression engines and employing flow mode, block mode, vector mode, application scanning identification technology, and Telemetry collection technology, collects real-time and efficient user online service feature information data through standard communication protocol interfaces. It comprehensively analyzes application service indicators, PON network information indicators, and home broadband network environment indicators to identify users with poor broadband service quality. It further accomplishes functions such as poor quality analysis, fault delineation and localization, user profiling, and potential customer analysis. This enhances fault handling efficiency, reduces ineffective communication and unnecessary on-site visits, and lowers operating costs. Additionally, through user profiling, the system enables fine management of user services, enhancing user experience and satisfaction.

Key features of the SmartQos@iPON system include:

  1. Digitized Objective Assessment of Broadband Service Quality: The system continuously captures flows 24/7, analyzing various fundamental network KPIs and recording poor quality times for business applications. It uses a unified public feature library to make objective and fair poor quality analysis results. The feature library and discrimination thresholds are continuously refined to achieve accurate judgments.

  2. Transformation of Home Broadband Operation and Maintenance Service Mode from Passive to Active: By monitoring real-time KPIs for internet application services on the user side, the system identifies specific phenomena and causes of quality degradation, allowing operations and maintenance personnel to proactively provide on-site services for issues that require resolution. This significantly improves service reputation and customer satisfaction.

  3. Enhanced Operation and Maintenance Efficiency, Reduced Difficulty: Based on PON network and home network alarms and performance indicators, the system analyzes the causes of poor quality and identifies faults, guiding operations and maintenance personnel to accurately locate faults. This targeted approach reduces the time and difficulty of back-end and on-site operations and maintenance, improving efficiency.

  4. User Profiling for Tailored Services: The system generates user profiles based on user internet traffic, frequent applications, and heavy application preferences. This allows the provision of matching products and services, such as application acceleration and intelligent home networking products, while also supporting the promotion of operator services.

Currently, the SmartQos Quality Broadband Analysis System has successfully undergone trial deployment, serving over 100,000 users and contributing to the improvement of broadband quality. It helps operators build a Level 3 "automatic driving" home broadband network. FiberHome will continue to optimize and innovate, assisting operators in creating high-quality, user-friendly home broadband networks.
